Regular price $175.50 Sale

Designed by Phil Kraft, the original concept of the Ugly Stik was to design a radio controlled aircraft which could be built in an absolute minimum of time and could be considered as expendable.

The airplane that took 3 evenings to design and finish became one of the most built and flown designs in RC!

We have improved on the original design by adding in two plywood wing servo mounts to allow two standard size aileron servos to be mounted in the wing, and a servo tray for mounting standard size servos inside the fuselage.

NEW: we also updated the wing mounting to now a screw on version, but also retaining the option for classic rubber band wing attachment.

A note about this kit from Robert in Auckland, NZ:

Our club has a number of instructors and a queue of people wanting flying lessons. We have a fleet of IC planes of many styles but for training an electric model is more convenient and the trainee does not have to deal with dead sticks.

But we needed a good slow flyer with stable flight characteristics for the newbie, able to be a bit more sassy for the intermediate and darn right fast for the instructors to "play" with after training as their reward.

Hard to find all of that in one plane? Not really when you have a Das Ugly Stick. I built this one as electric and it is developing tons of thrust that is at least as good as the IC 2 stroke version I have. The specs for the Electric set up I have used are: Turnigy Aerodrive 4240 - 740Kv with a 12 x 8 prop, on a 4s 5000 Lipo. The current draw is 50A developing 760W.

Short Kit Or Complete Airframe Kit?

A Short Kit includes a full size printed plan and all of the laser cut parts that are required as part of the complete airframe build.

Items such as wing ribs, dihedral joiners, fuselage formers & fuselage parts, doublers, bulkheads and so on.

Every part which is a complex cut is precisely laser cut as per the plan and included in the short kit. Some kits may also include vacuum formed ABS parts like canopies or cowlings.

With a Short Kit, the only items you need to add to the laser cut parts to build a complete airframe are components which are simply cut to length. Parts such as wing spars, wing sheeting or fuselage sheeting for example.

A Complete Airframe Kit includes the Laser Cut Short Kit, plus the entire list of additional materials required to complete the airframe build.

Select this option when adding to your cart to purchase all of the materials required to complete the airframe build.

Every kit includes a full size printed plan, and where available the designers original construction notes. The kits do not include miscellaneous hardware such as pushrods, control horns, hinges, wheels etc.
